‘My Love Affair With Marriage’ Trailer: Signe Baumane’s Inner Female Rebellion Animation Headed To Tribeca & Annecy

Watch: 'My Love Affair With Marriage' Trailer

EXCLUSIVE: New York-based filmmaker Signe Baumane’s My Love Affair With Marriage will have its world premiere at Tribeca which kicks off on Wednesday this week. The adult animation then travels to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival which begins June 13. Check out the first trailer above.

The story centers on Zelma who, from an early age, was convinced by songs and fairytales that love would solve all her problems as long as she abided by societal expectations of how a girl should act. But as she grew older something didn’t seem right with the concept of love: the more she tried to conform, the more her body resisted. The film is about the acceptance of the inner female rebellion.

Voice cast includes Dagmara Dominczyk (Succession, The Lost Daughter), Stephen Lang (Avatar), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) and Cameron Monaghan (Shameless).

With the film, Baumane wanted to show how societal structures and hierarchies reflect on neural pathways, and the chemistry that occurs when people fall in and out of love. “By wrapping my personal story around scientific findings, I was hoping to help women examine their own intimate relationships,” she has said.

Baumane previously directed 2014’s Rocks In My Pockets, also an animated pic with a personal theme — this time about battling depression. It was based on true events involving five women in her family, including Baumane herself who provided narration. The film traveled to over 200 festivals.

As with Rocks In My Pockets, New Europe Film Sales is handling world rights on My Love Affair With Marriage.
